Nettles…they grow everywhere! And nobody takes notice and if they do its in horror to avoid getting stung! But…Nettles are a super star// super herb…They are kind of like an ugly duckling that is turning into a beautiful swan, as the public slowly learns to appreciate all of their glorious properties…once again  cause I’m sure our grandparents definitely knew their worth…As my friend Xristo always tells me, his parents survived the hunger of the German occupation in Greece with nettles and carob! Next recipe post will be about carob!

A quick look at what nettle can do for you!

Nettle (Urtica Dioica)

Guess what? Nature in all her glory has predicted a remedy for all those runny noses and puffy eyes of spring…Nettle (that grows rampant in the season!) has been used for centuries to treat allergy symptoms, particularly hay-fever!  “It contains biologically active compounds that reduce inflammation.” Dr. Andrew Wiel M.D. author of Natural Health/ Natural Medicine says. He “knows of nothing more effective than nettle for allergy relief.” And his statement is backed up by studies at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon.

Furthermore: Nettles are high in iron, potassium, manganese, calcium and vitamins A and C (and are also a decent source of protein).

Nettle has been studied extensively and has shown promise in treating Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, asthma, bladder infections, bronchitis, bursitis, gingivitis, gout, hives, kidney stones, laryngitis, multiple sclerosis, PMS, prostate enlargement, sciatica, and tendinitis! Externally it has been used to improve the appearance of the hair, and is said to be a remedy against oily hair and dandruff.

All that and it almost everywhere, even in a metropolis like Athens..So go make use of it ! Forage Forage Forage! Onwards ye butterflies and buttercups…Nettle makes you feel fantastic!

500ml of coconut water or filtered water

5-6 strawberries (with stem)
